About

Grow without selling people.

Nullware Project is a certification for businesses that want to be trusted. We set a clear standard, check it properly, and keep a public register of who meets it.

Our mission
Make it normal for good businesses to grow without selling or surveilling their customers.

Tracking became standard quietly, one convenient setting at a time. Uploading a customer list to an ad platform is now a few clicks, and most people who do it never think of it as handing someone over. We want the alternative to be just as easy, just as normal, and visibly rewarded.

Our vision
Every member adds one more.
A web where buying something doesn’t make you a target.

We picture a future where people can look for a mark on a website and know, without reading a single policy, that what they share stays between them and the business they chose. And where businesses compete on what they make rather than on how much they know about each customer.

01Six principles

What we believe

Six principles behind everything we do, from the Standard to how we run ourselves.

01Trust is an asset, not a by-productA customer who trusts you comes back without being chased. That’s worth more than any audience list.
02Marketing is fine. Surveillance isn’t.Tell people about what you make, loudly. Just don’t follow them around to do it.
03Understanding beats trackingKnowing what works for most people is useful. Knowing where one person went last night isn’t necessary.
04Proof beats promisesAnyone can write a privacy policy. We check, publish what we find, and ask members to do the same.
05Standards are earned, not boughtCertification can’t be bought, and it can be lost. Fees pay for the review, whatever the outcome. That’s the only way a badge means anything.
06One Standard for everyoneA corner shop and a large retailer apply to the same Standard and go through the same review.

What we’re not

It’s easy to misread an organisation like this. So, plainly:

Not anti-marketing
Ads, sponsorships, newsletters, events: all fine. Good marketing is how good products find people.
Not anti-measurement
Counting visitors, testing pages and tracking campaign links are all part of running a business well.
Not a regulator or a law firm
We set a voluntary standard above the legal minimum. Membership isn’t legal advice or legal compliance.
Not pay-to-play
Fees are published, scaled to the size of the business and paid whatever the outcome. They pay for reviews, never for results.
